The Baptism of Adults
If you are an adult thinking about being baptised, we would be very happy to welcome you to our fellowship. Contrary to what some people assume, we can baptise adults as well as children!
Major Decision
Choosing to be baptised as an adult is a major decision which is likely to involve a lot of soul-searching and significant re-orientation of life. We will do our best to help you think through all the issues. You will be expected to declare that the faith of the church is also your own faith – i.e. that you believe the same things and are prepared to demonstrate that faith by your day-to-day behaviour and by your regular attendance at Sunday worship. As a starter for ten, you may like to look at what we believe. We offer several different discussion groups through the year which are great environments in which to start thinking about what it means to be a Christian.
Godparent?
If you are considering baptism because you have been asked to be a Godparent, please note the following before you get in touch:
- Being a Godparent is both a fantastic privilege and a big responsibility. We hope you will find the advice on our dedicated page for Godparents helpful.
- Because we take both Baptism and people seriously, it is likely to take several weeks of discussions with the Rector and others before you will be baptised. You should advise the friends who asked you to be a Godparent of this process and the delay it may entail so they do not organise their celebration of baptism too soon. We would recommend that you invite them to join you on your journey of discovery.
If you are serious about following Jesus and being baptised, the best thing for you to do is to contact the Rector in person.
